Hi,

Bulldog offer a much better package - unlimited bandwidth & up to 1mb for £15 a month and then £19.95 after 6 months I think.

At the moment with BT we're paying £25 a month with a download cap of 20GB and we can only get 576k out of the line because of were we live... so we're basically getting a bit ripped off there when we could get unlimited download bandwidth for £5 less from Bulldog.

I emailed bulldog asking if we could keep our BT emails addressed and they said we could.

I just wondered what they'd have to do to transfer us to Bulldog? As bulldog use BT lines would BT just transfer our details over to bulldog, and then bulldog would lift our 20GB bandwidth limit and not really have to touch our lines at all? (I'm wondering this as we have pretty dodgy lines and don't want it to be upset).

Also, currently they have a special offer where the packages are £5 less for the first 6 months and also connection is only £1 at the moment instead of £50. Are there any other hidden costs etc.?

As said above I emailed them asking if we could keep our @btinternet.com emails and they said yes, is it 100% certain that we will keep the emails as my Dad cannot afford to loose his.

Thanks,
Craig.

How can you keep your email addresses if you leave BT, dont they just cancel them? Be sure to read the T&Cs for Bulldog, you may be signing up to a 12month contract or something.

Well, Bulldog do use BT lines, so there's no reason for BT to cancel the emails, this is what they sent me when I asked:

Dear Craig,

Thank you for emailing Bulldog.

In answer to your question, yes you can retain your BT internet address.

Should you require any further information please do not hesitate to reply back to us or call Customer Services on our free phone number 0800 404 8151. Please use the order reference in all communication.

I'm about to phone them and I'll ask again.

Er, they're totally separate, and you won't be using your BT Internet account, so there's every chance they'll kill it. Emailing Bulldog about it's a bit like asking Ford if the latest Astra comes with alloy wheels...

If you can only get 512kbps out of your BT line, there's a good chance that's all you'll get out of Bulldog too, especially if it's not using LLU.

To some extent it depends what they're moving you over to. If it's LLU, everything changes. Either way you'll most likely need to change username.
The "bandwidth limit" is ISP specific, so it's got nothing to do with Bulldog whatsoever.
You're blurring the distinction between BT Wholesale and BT Retail - Bulldog's just another ISP, the same way BT Retail are. Caps et al are an ISP issue.

Hmm, I think I'm going to phone BT and ask them about the email addresses etc. and see what they say about it.

Also, just got this from bulldog:

Thank you for emailing Bulldog.

Yes we do use BT lines for connection but it would have no association with your bulldog account should you decide to order from us. You would need to cancel with BT so that we can take over the line.

So there shouldn't be any problem with them getting the line up an running (we have real dodgy lines) as they use BT lines for that.

Thanks for the help :)
Craig.

You can probably keep your email addresses by downgrading the BT account to a Pay-as-you-Go (dial-up) account.

This is what I did when I left BT Broadband, and it worked fine at the time. I no longer use those accounts though so I can't tell you if they're still active.

That's who you should be emailing. As said, you should be able to keep the email.

If you wanted to be pedantic, they're wrong. It's an Openreach copper pair (which is distinct from BTw/your ISP).
Sounds like they're talking about the voice service though, but meh.
