BTinternet Hub5 alternatives

My BTinternet hub has just died, (It is an infinity Hub3+Modem box set-up)

The easy solution is just to get a new Hub5.

But can I get something better?

Is there a superior alternative available from everybodies favourite computer store :D?

The BThub would be just P&P.

What issues might I face using a non-BT alternative? would I still be able to enable FON? Would there be specific set up issues?

This is not an area I know much about so any advise would be most welcome.

PS I also have the BTTV box

Internet Multicast channels might not work with a non BT Hub (although some router models enable you to configure it and there are recommended settings on the BT Forums for them), I think you'd still be able to get into FON but you won't be sharing your WiFi on a non BT router.

Apart from that, I can't think of anything else. I've been using an ASUS router for a few months now and it's not caused any problems. I'm still able to login to BT WiFi.

Recently went to the 5 from the 3.
Nice to dump the modem, nice to have dual band, i find things like an ipad air, and the mobiles in the house download dramatically better now over wifi.
When they show two stripes instead of three, they work still at what seems to be full soeed rather than not work at all like with the 3.
The pc were both hard wired, so no real difference there, might be a bit faster, but not noticably.

Only cost me postage also, worth the upgrade.

Most likely due to the dual band and wider channel support I guess? Could be AC helping with speeds too (if your devices support it).

I ditched my HH5 and went for a TP-Link VR900. I have had no issues with it so far and it is easy to setup (automatically tags VLAN 101 without manual intervention). Has guest WiFi which can be segmented off from the rest of your network. Both 2.4ghz & 5ghz SSID's give good coverage around my home.

Also has an IPTV section for your BTTV box.

Exactly what died? The BT white modem or the BT Home Hub 3?

I replaced my HH3 with an Asus, and am still able to use BT FON (of course my Asus doesn't broadcast a BT WiFi but oh well more speed for me). No idea on TV as I don't use that.
