Buckling spring keyboard also suitable for gaming?

I currently have a Razer Blackwidow keyboard. Apart from the Cherry Blue switches, which I like very much, I think it's a cheap, ugly plastic piece of crap and I wish I'd never bought it. I just hate the look of it as well as everything else about it and want it off my desk ASAP lol. At least it does have the Cherry switches in it because if it was one of the later ones with the cheap clones it really would have nothing going for it.

I've been looking at the Unicomp Model Ms (which you could still call ugly of course but in a charming old school kind of way and not an "Xtreme 1337 gamerz" kind of way).

Does anyone have any actual experience with gaming on them - I am aware they're only 2 key rollover but I don't think that'd affect the sort of games I play with a keyboard. I mainly type on it so it's more about finding something acceptable to game with rather than the absolute best gaming keyboard on the market. I'm quite happy with the Cherry Blues they used in the Razer (in a "gaming" keyboard for some reason) so I don't think the springs would be any worse.

Failing that does anyone have any other recommendations for a good, very conservative looking black mechanical keyboard preferably with blue or brown switches in it under £100?

Well that did cross my mind but the section’s titled “Gaming peripherals” and I’m not after a gaming keyboard... but you’re right it probably would be better off there

I really like the tkl one... that’s a really nice looking board, I was looking to spend a little less than that but maybe I will just take the plunge. The buckling spring ones really do appeal to me in a big way but I know the Cherry ones are probably more practical really

I use a mechanical typing keyboard for gaming and honestly I'd rather have cherry mx reds.

Turn based strategy is not a problem... FPS? too slow.

Well luckily I don't play FPS games and my Cherry Blues have been perfectly fine for everything I've thrown at it so far. Odd choice of switch for a "gaming" keyboard but there we go. I think I will pick up a Unicomp when the time comes.

Quite probably. I never could get on with reds for typing on, which is the majority of use the keyboard gets and just the odd game I don’t like to use a controller with.

I believe Razer still use MX blue knockoffs custom Razer switches that feel a bit like MX blues, very odd.

The version with the numpad is actually slightly cheaper although currently out of stock. Really good keyboard though. I have a Ninja version with brown switches that's served me well for over 5 years now I think :)
