Canon A510 for around £120, I've had mine about 9months now and haven't had a single problem with it, its not up professional cameras obviously but more than adequate for my needs

I ALMOST bought the Canon A510, but then went for the Samsung A50. Pretty similar in its features but with the A50 the video capture is really good, and you aren't limited to 30 seconds like on the Canon, you can video for as much as your memory card can handle. Also with the Canon the video goes at 15fps which is quite jerky. Thats what swung it for me, the pictures are probably about the same, and you may not need the video, but when spending £110(ish) you might as well get one that has good video one that doesn't.
There is loads of options to set it for the correct lighting and conditions etc, or just stick it on auto and let the camera figure it out.
The downside I have noticed though is that the batteries dont seem to last very long, I will either go and hunt down some longer lasting high capacity ones, or just carry more.

Kinda hijacking the thread here, but I'm also looking for a new camera (don't think we need 5 reccommend me threads here), I've looked on Steve's cams but there are so many I just feel a tad overwhelmed. However, I came across Kodak Z740 which seems like an absolute bargain (found one for £158 inc), 5MP/10 Opt zoom and seems to have a lot of features. Would that be a good choice for a first cam?
