Looking for a budget Android phone for father in law. Approx £150 to spend.

What would you recommend guys. I don't have a clue!!

HTC Wildfire. Just updated to Android 2.3 operating system.
Main problem is: The processor is too slow so you can't play many games.

EDIT: It's around £170, but the extra pennies make a big difference, it looks the part too!

It's 'ok', it depends what you need.

If you're bothering with Android you really want something semi-decent, the Apollo and Europa are both alright but they are cheap and cheerful as you would expect.

The San Francisco gets away with being cheap and cheerful as it's fairly well specced.

Really, he would be better off with a San Francisco than a Wildfire.

Yes the SF has a higher resolution screen, and more RAM but the camera is poor compared to that of the HTC and the 'orange modified' android OS is filled with bugs.
I also like HTC sense. If you're not bothered about camera and you don't mind updating/adding your own Android OS then I can agree, SF.

I'll also add the HTC has a much better battery life due to its smaller screen size (could be an advantage).

I wouldn't recommend the SF unless you're prepared to root and install a custom rom, the orange OS is terrible to the point of ruining the phone.

The camera is pants on all of the sub-£100 Android phones. Some may be slightly better than others but they are basically all useless.

Battery life varies a bit but don't expect miracles either.

Second hand Desire, £150. Job done.

I would never bother with a SF.

This or the Defy, easily :)

I hear the battery and camera are pants on the SF?

The camera is pretty poor, indoor shots especially. It also takes an awfully long time from pressing the take picture button to the shot actually being taken.

I bought my Mum an SF so i can't comment from direct experience but she said battery life is not great. It's a problem with many smart phones though, my desire included. You need to make sure everything is turned off if you're not using it and the screen brightness turned down if you expect to be away from a charger for a while etc etc
