Hi, what's the cheapest I can put a base unit together (including Windows)? No gaming, just general family stuff like itunes and internet. Cheap as possible please :D
Thanks in advance

lets help the guys out a bit.

do u need monitor keyboard mouse?

also going to go out on a limb here and suggest an ipad, or even a google nexus?

Looks good Sneblot, I've been having a look at some of the barebones sets OCUK sell and there's one at the moment on £60 which will get me the mobo/PSU/case for £60. This one
Would it be OK to stick an i3-3220 in that?
Just need HDD (will go for 500gb normal as they want itunes library), optical drive and ram then? Am I missing anything?

opstrat, my bad, I though base unit would indicate no kb/mouse/monitor.

BrianB, not a bad idea but they already have a laptop and are keen to keep their desktop set up, so I'm speccing out a base unit as cheap as I can for them

You may have a problem with running the i3-3220 on the older Intel 6 series boards. Although the same socket these boards require a BIOS update to run the new Ivy chips, to do this you need to have a sandybridge chip.

if you go with sneblot's build or even the primo pre built, change out the psu for this one

The company that makes the psu for ocuk are notorious for blowing up and taking the the rest of the computer with it.

Wow I did not know that yer I would suggest changing out the psu then, I had gone for the cheapest of nearly everything. I would have to say I personally would go for the AMD build just cause you won't have to worry about the i3-3220 on the older Intel 6 series boards issue.
