Hi guys, totally out the loop with the current crop of hardware but been asked by a friend who wants start selling PC based CCTV DVR systems whats a good budget box which is reliable and quite leniant to what hardware you chuck in (basically cheap nasty PCI DVR cards) as he'd had something based around a cheap Asus mobo and it wouldnt run but was fine with older hardware.

I said I'd ask on here as I aint got a clue whats what these days.

Looking for AMD and Intel options so those in the know, if you can spec me something it'd be great!

CPU wise anything celerony or semprony will do, 256-512 meg ram, a motherboard without loads of components near the front of the PCI slots due to stuff fouling on some of these cards with loads of camera connectors on them hitting mobo components... and otherwise pretty boggo machine, nothing special at all. Monitor, keyboard and mouse not needed :)

Thanks all!

looks alright to me that does fella, nice one :D will have a proper look at the mobo especially in a bit! Thanks :)

Any more ideas too folks?

Can't see any obvious ways to make it much cheaper, the only thing I would suggest is buying a SATA hard drive, most, if not all, have 8mb cache so are faster aside from the theoretical benefits of the increased bandwidth.

Next point is that if this is for recording CCTV, how much is likely to be stored and therefore how big does the hard drive need to be? Also what requirements does the DVB cards have in terms of processing power and Ram?
