Budget build - Advice needed

Hi all,

A friend (Nokkonwud) recommended I posted here for some advice on a budget upgrade I'm planning. I already have a suitable case, monitors, peripherals etc. A 500w PSU and a GeForce FX 9600GT. I didn't really want to spend more than £300. The PC will be used for work (I'm a 3D games artist) and would need as much memory as I can afford. I was looking through the OCUK bundles and came up with this:

Then I got a little carried away:

Obviously I'd prefer to spend less but don't want parts that are going to let me down or cause a bottleneck. I'm most worried about the motherboard. Do I need to get matching chipset numbers or just socket numbers? Can I have a H61 mobo with a Z77 processor?

If you could recommend other parts that would be fantastic.

Thanks,

Matt

Its supported 22nm chips for ages, doubt the board is old enough to have a really really old BIOS on it.

I'm not sure how seriously you are considering going with 16GB of RAM, but I would suggest you'd be better off sticking with 8GB. I think that it's unlikely you would notice any difference in performance. You could then spend the difference on a slightly faster processor, which is something you were more likely to benefit from. Going with an unlocked processor would give you the option of overclocking it quite easily and safely to 4GHz for a further speed boost.

As a newbie I don't know how to link a shopping basket, but I'd be thinking along the lines of:
* Gigabyte Z77-D3H Intel Z77 (Socket 1155) DDR3 Motherboard - £79.99
* Intel Core i5-3570K 3.40GHz (Ivybridge) Socket LGA1155 Processor (77W) - OEM - £173.99
* Cooler Master Hyper 212 Evo CPU Cooler - £26.99
* Corsair Vengeance Low Profile 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C9 1600MHz Dual Channel Kit - £35.99
* Total price including VAT and shipping £328.36

In my experience, when doing a lot of rendering, the more RAM the better!
Is the Cooler Master Hyper 212 Evo CPU Coolera lot better than the stock cooler?
Also, is the Corsair Vengeance RAM compatible with Ivybridge? It only states 'compatible with Sandybridge' on the OCUK shop :/

Odd that the Gold memory states that it's compatible with IvyBridge but the black doesn't. I imagine it's just because the page hasnt been updated?
