Edit. Looks like my system is really not worth upgrading so I’m going to build from scratch.

So I’ve finally come to the conclusion that I really need to buy a new “budget” card.

I’m not a huge gamer but would like to play a few newer titles.

1080 is fine 1440 would be a bonus but not a deal breaker.

I’ve spent a while trawling through and pretty much come down to either a 6600 or a 3050.
Specifically these two.

I’ve seen there’s been issues with some 3050’s but honestly don’t know enough about GPU’s nowadays to make an informed decision either way.

So over to you folks, be gentle with me :D

My choice would be the sapphire Pulse rx6600 myself as I reckon the cooler and fans might be of better quality, so quieter and cooler maybe?. Faster in rasterisation, ray tracing is probably a no go on either card, and you can use "radeon super resolution" and "FSR" with the 6600 to squeeze out a bit more performance from the 6600. You also get, on the other hand, DLSS usage with the 3050 but thats only when implemented in the game you're playing I think, and NIS scaling for games that don't.

what's you're current card as id make sure you are getting a upgrade worthy of the outlay if buying now.

It’s got a dying 1050 in there at the moment so it’s getting to the stage where it’s got to be replaced.

either card i guess depending on price you can get one at, now the fun part do you wait for a few more weeks or pull the trigger now :P

If buying now get a RX6600.
Prices are trending downwards for the first time since 2020 however so you might prefer to wait a bit and look at the second hand market, perhaps something like a 3060ti, 2070s or 5700XT will become available around that price point. I have one and it seems OK if you are sensible with settings.

I’ve just delved a little deeper into my system and it looks like it’s going to bottleneck like mad (it’s been years since I did any hardware, my last build, long since replaced with an off the shelf PC was a Q6600 back in 2007 )

Anyhoo the rig I was going to put it is no where near good enough to warrant even a budget card right now. So I’m going back to the drawing board and probably build something instead.

Thanks for the input though, much appreciated!
