Which sub £100 CPU? is a very common conundrum for a lot of people, this category is actually very popular.
In the past when it was the Pentium G4560 vs FX or Athlon CPU's the default answer was always "the G4560 was better"
With AMD and now Intel introducing new budget orientated CPU's which is the new sub £100 king?
Well in my view despite the higher price its without doubt the Ryzen 2200G namely because its a proper 4 core CPU with discrete level GT 1030 / RX 550 integrated graphics, you can actually use its on-board graphics for budget gaming.
By comparison the Pentium in just a dual core with Hyperthreading and its integrated graphics are useless for anything other than providing a display output.
All of that aside what do you actually get if you are looking for a cheap CPU to pair with a higher range GPU than a GT 1030 or RX 550?
Enter Hardware Unboxed with a GTX 1070 and some gaming and productivity benchmarks.
To summarize in gaming with the GTX 1070 the Ryzen 2200G is anything from 15 to 50% faster, in productivity the Ryzen 2200G is anything from 0 to 60% faster.
So the 2200G is clearly a much better CPU even with its Integrated Graphics taken out of the equation.
The price difference is:
G5400 = £60
Ryzen 2200G = £85
Despite the 2200G costing £25 more IMO its the clear choice.
