Hi all!

I'm looking to upgrade my current build and it's been a while so would like some friendly advice please

Current Spec;
Q6600 @ 3.6
Asus P5Q Pro
4GB DDR2
Sapphire 7850 2GB
500w Modular Enermax Liberty

I'm liking the look/size of the BitFenix so would like to incorporate that in my new build. Budget is pretty low so anything under £500 would be great.

Thanks :)

Do you have hdd/ssd, optical drive and an OS you can reuse. Also, will you be OCing.

Thanks for the reply.

I have an OS, DVD-RW and HDD for file storage but looking to get an SSD for the OS (Windows 7) if budget allows.

Yeah I'm up for overclocking of course ;)

So I suppose I just need a Mobo, RAM, CPU, PSU and SSD...

(EDIT: just thought I could probably get away with using my current PSU?)

YOUR BASKET
1 x Intel Core i5-4670K 3.40GHz (Haswell) Socket LGA1150 Processor - Retail £197.99
1 x Gigabyte Z87N-WIFI Intel Z87 (Socket 1150) DDR3 Mini ITX Motherboard £119.99
1 x Patriot Viper "Black Mamba" Generation 3 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 PC3-17000C11 2133MHz Dual CHannel Kit (PV38G213C1K) £65.99
1 x BitFenix Prodigy Mini-ITX Case - CaseKing Anniversary Edt. £60.95
1 x **B Grade** Samsung 120GB SSD 840 SATA 6Gb/s Basic - (MZ-7TD120BW) £60.00
Total : £504.91 (includes shipping : FREE).

The 840 EVO is definitely a better SSD but this B grade 840 is ok (certainly for the price) and helps keep to your budget roughly. Not sure if your PSU will support Haswells power saving states, if not just disable them in the BIOS

Yea your PSU size and being modular would fit well into the Prodigy. It will do fine with an overclocked i5 and whatever graphic card (may be except for dual-GPU ones).

Optimism I'd say lol.

I know the Bit Fenix is a big case but it's not gonna take a full ATX board :p

Incidentally is there much point in pairing the K CPU with that board.
I have one and a 3770K but it has no voltage control at all so you can't do much in the way of OCing. Would be better to either spend a bit more on a better board if the OP could squeeze it or perhaps save some money on the CPU and not overclock it?

Oh balls this is pretty much the setup i've gone for... can't believe its got no voltage control??? That sucks :(

Does it control the voltage automagically? Will I be able to clock it at all?

EDIT: Actually I lied... I've gone with the Gigabyte Z87N-WIFI Intel Z87, is this going to be ok?

Another EDIT:

This is what I've ordered;

Intel Core i5-4670K 3.40GHz (Haswell) Socket LGA1150 Processor - Retail
Corsair Hydro H60 V2 High Performance Liquid CPU Cooler
Gigabyte Z87N-WIFI Intel Z87
Samsung 120GB SSD 840 EVO SATA 6Gb/s Basic -(WHEN?)
BitFenix Prodigy Mini-ITX Case
Patriot Viper "Black Mamba" Generation 3 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 PC3-17000C11 2133MHz Dual CHannel Kit

Hoping the EVO's come in stock tomorrow :)

I couldn't say about the Z87N, I'd assume it has some control as just seen a reviewer OC it to 4.9GHz.

The Z77N has nothing, it doesn't even auto increase the CPU voltage as far as I can see. It has one option to allow you to overvolt the CPU PLL but it's simply on or off lol.

Yeah just saw that review as well so looks good to me :)

Thanks all, will post my results once it's up and running if anyone is interested...

Hate to point this out mate but I think you've ordered a 3570K Ivybridge chip 1155 and a Z87N Haswell board 1150

Maybe see if you could swap the 3570K for a 4670K? Only £12 extra for retail versions.

Sorry that was just another post fail from me (edited now).

I actually bought an "Intel Core i5-4670K 3.40GHz (Haswell) Socket LGA1150 Processor - Retail" CPU.

Fitted the mobo/h60 and cpu last night :)

Ah ok no worries, just wanted to make sure lol.

Need to get me one of them Hydros as well, but I keep flirting with the idea of an H80 but not sure how well it'll fit in with the extra depth of the radiator.
