Budget gaming cpu

I have an old hd4850 1gb I am using for a budget build for my nephew and other spare parts I have so I am looking at a budget cpu for gaming, the two I am looking at are the G850 2.90GHz and i3-2100 3.10GHz.

What I am asking is there a massive differance in gaming performance between them both, At the moment I am being swayed to the G850 as it is a very low price of £61.99 and paired with the £36 msi H61 board will be a nice budget price but I want to make sure that cpu can actually handle games before making the plunge for him.

It will be for gaming only and if I remember correctly his resolution is 1280/1024

Considering the i3 is on offer, I'd get that if you can afford it.

Yep not much in it..Found another good review and it basically came back the same http://www.legitreviews.com/article/1672/19/ doing research indicates that the g850 is adequate for gaming as long as the gpu is up to the task first, as it seems the cpu is not a major factor in the overall result with benchmarks
