Budget Gaming laptop...

So I'm searching for a laptop for my brother, its beginning to be a lot harder than I thought it would. With desktops I have no trouble understanding what is a good price or not, but laptops are a whole different world.

What my brother wants is something he can game on, video edit and general web browsing and HD video viewing. It doesn't matter what size the screen is as long as it can do these things.

The maximum he can spend on this is £450 but can push that little bit higher (£25-£30 if needs be)

I don't really have a clue where to look but i have found one laptop which i think might just do the job but I am not sure if i should buy it or not because there might be a much better deal out there.

The one i found is the following :

Studio 1745
Intel Core2 Duo P7550(2.2GHz,1066MHz,3MB)
English Genuine Windows 7 Home Premium (64 BIT)
Hard Drive : 320GB Serial ATA (5400RPM)
4096MB (2x2048) 1067MHz DDR3 Dual Channel
17.3in High Definition+ (1600X900) LED with TrueLife
512 MB ATI Mobility RADEON HD 4570
Black Chainlink

That is all for £478.95 including VAT and delivery.

So guys, is there something better for the money? Thanks :)

im no expert, but im sure people said you can get decent gaming laptops with maybe an i3 or i5 processor, but im not too sure myself, like i said, im no expert :)

EDIT: for your price range that is.

An ATI 4570, although not a terrible gfx chip is not really suited as a gaming GPU. My 5470 (which is slightly better) plays games at a playable framerate on medium settings, but it's not something I use for gaming particularly. For that I use my PC...

Keep looking. Though those DELL Studio 17s look good for gaming, I think the ones that would be ideal spec wise for your brother are a little over his budget. :)

I know his budget is quite low but what's the best for his money? The dell went so that sucks if it was a good buy.

thanks for the help

hi,
i'm in a similar position, looking for a gaming laptop around that price range.
after looking around i'm thinking about getting either a ASUS X5DAF-SX061V or a Acer Aspire 5739G.
i wouldn't be a massive gamer just football manager, WOW etc
anyone have any experience or either of these or any better recommendations

Its probably as good as you will get for at price, someone mentioned a 5650 mobility earlier but I think its definitly out of reach with that budget unless you bought 2nd hand.

So ye good purchase.

Yeh that will do the trick. As I mentioned in my previous post, don't expect high settings, but it should manage reasonable framerates on medium - low settings on modern games and maybe high on older games...

Nice laptop though, I'm pleased with my DELL Studio 1558. :)
