Hi All

Can anybody recomend me a good budget gaming mouse and keyboard.I am going to get a new build for xmas but would like a new mouse and keyboard.
I usually just use a cheap and nasty mouse and keyboard and would like to take a step up the peripheral ladder lol.

I usualy play RTS or stratergy games.

Budget £20-£30 for mouse and same for the keyboard.

Would like a keyboard with a backlight on it.Maybe a blueish tint but not essential.

Thanks

Martyn

Mouse you cant go wrong with Logitech MX518 or Microsoft HABU
and keyboard the best you will get is probably a Logitech G11 or g15 if you can stretch. Tbh though a keyboard doesnt really affect gaming apart from WOW e.t.c where you need the dedicated keys so you could just get a cheap keyboard.

It's on offer this week too :)

I use the MX3000, but this is the updated version. I was long since a fan of wired, but this set is great IMO. I prefer the logitech/MS mouses to others, they fit my hand better, but you may be different, so I'd suggest you try different brands - they tend to be the same across their ranges.

I got a Saitek Eclipse II and Razer Diamondback 3G for relatively cheap, I like em a lot, but that maybe because of the mesmerizing lighting on both, lol;)

What benifits does an expensive mouse offer to gamers. Dont they all just do the same thing?

No they don't, There is a HUGE benefit from having a gaming grade lazer mouse over some £5 mouse from tesco, just go read some reviews, or better yet buy one you'll notice a difference after the first 30 seconds of use!

Well I've just gone from a standard keyboard that came with my PC World computer 6 years ago and £5 mouse to G15 and Razor DeathAdder.

Now I never really felt the need to buy an expensive mouse but I don't think I could go back to a cheap mouse now. Shape wise it fits better in my hand, the texture feels very lovely and provides good grip and overall build quality just feels excellent. That may not seem important but after all this is something you may end up using for hours everyday so it's worth investing in. It also glides much better on my table than the other mouse. Most importantly though it just feels so much smoother and much more precise in games. I noticed a difference in my games pretty much straight away and now that I'm getting used to it, I'm just getting better (still crap mind :p). Also while this is cosmetical I like the blue lights on it.

As for the keyboard, I don't play any games that requires macros so I don't think my left side of the keyboard will be getting much love but again I like the blue backlight especially since I usually have lights off in my room. The little screen is useful for temps, FPS, weather and news reports etc. The media buttons are useful too and 2 USB ports come in handy as I tend to connect my camera, MP3 player, etc to the PC a lot and I've got none in the front of my PC so it was a pain before.

There are no intrinsic benefits whatsoever of an expensive mouse.

A high quality mouse will be very beneficial (better design, better build quality, will be more reliable and work better) - but it needn't be very expensive.

(Logitech MX518 is around £20 - cheap by any measure especially for something you use every time you use the PC! - and is excellent IMO)
