Would be much appreciated if I could get some opinions on my budget gaming PC build. It's my first build, so any help would be great. ;)

Here's the build...

http://bit.ly/fUBxbb (Google Docs link)

I'm using it for playing games such as GTA4 and The Sims 3, as well as image, video, sound editing among other things.

Budget of £400, and I'm on £399.83!! :D

But I can go up to about £450-£500 if anyone has any suggestions for better hardware?

Get a Sapphire 5850 GPU instead of the 5770, as you can afford.

With that said though, the ATI GPUs aren't don't seem to perform well with GTA IV compared to nVidia.

I'm sure other users will be more informative than I am. :D

Plus, buy from OC instead.

thats looking really nice, and im slightly irritated to say a damned sight cheaper than OcUK prices. unfortunatly your going to have to get rid of the links in that spreadsheet, because your not allowed to post competitor links here

*edit*
i did as similar build as i could, and it comes out at £50 more from OcUK

Just so you know, you're not allowed to link out to competitors so you might wanna change the links within the link.

Not too hot on amd systems so I'll leave that to someone else :) (Edit: they already did while I was typing! lol)

Do yourself a favor and buy a Sandybridge system.

Its faster than AMD buy a long way

if he had been a forum member longer and eligible for free postage the build i listed would be less than a quid dearer and thats with a better case and gfx card so i dont think ocuk's prices can be that bad :)

and his spec listed stuff from 4 different places so that would be a few bob in postage too.

thats because the OP went for a blu ray player, and you only went for a DVD RW.

ps. you could save the £1 by going for the lite-on thing

well most of the £25 - £30 difference between the blu ray player and the dvd rw would more than likely be eaten up by the postage from 4 separate places.

I would advise getting it one go from OC anyway.

- Next day delivery.
- One giant exciting box waiting for you. All accounted for, no need to wait. Plan a system build night in :D
- Sold by people who actually know somthing about pc's.

Also the Bluray player.. I would advise its not worth it.

- Costly Bluray films
- need a good monitor to match
- goes better on a tv.

based on those 3 points, you will only see benifiets in them if you had much more cash to spend. aka amazing tv etc. I may be wrong but hey.

Spend more on your gpu and cpu.

Do you really need that wireless adapter? ethernetis the way.... still. Never fails, cheap as chips. Quite literally too.

My 2 cents anyway.

Also, from the top of my head. if you really can stretch it a bit more to at least 500. Go for a card around the 130 ish mark. If your primary use is gaming then it's definatly worth it. It will serve you many good years to come.

MY original build was 500 quid back in them days. was top notch too, when quad core was the shiznit and 4gb ram was unheard of lol. I just ended up using the remainder of the budget on cooling solutions. Very worth doing this as it will help performance and increase longevity.

In fact my 500 quid build is still running very very well today. Just with upgraded 470gtx card now instead.

Thanks for the input guys. That Sapphire 5830 is a bargain!! Might have to go for that! :)

I'm gonna shop about and see what I can find, but thanks for the advice. I'll be back!

if you want that card, you need to order before 09.00hrs, as that's when the today offers change.

Nice build list mate, nice to see people making sure that the technology/cost scales keep in balance, thumbs up well done.

If you're in the mind for small changes, I would suggest going for the cheapest GTX 460 (u know u want the 3d kit) you can find but then I am an Nvidia fan. I Got mine for about £103 3 months ago so they should be cheaper by now ?

Bigger change ? - U Probably don't want to hear this, but I would also say get a SB K setup now, £200 more but you'll have it for a very, very long time......those scales stop for no man alone :).
