Budget gaming PC

Hi,

A friend's son is hoping to build a budget gaming pc with a budget of £600.

He doesn't require a monitor, keyboard or mouse and it would mostly be used for FPS games at 720 resolution (possibly 1080 if his monitor supports it), is this doable on this kind of budget and what would the best OS for him to use?

Hope you can help as I've not got any idea, nor has his dad!

Personally I'd spend £50 extra squids and get 16gb of Ram and the Nitro+ version of the graphics card. An extra £100 will get you all that plus an i3.

This will smash 1080p gaming.

You can knock up a spec pretty much the same as this. Will probably run you about £100 more, but it's warrantied and saves you any headaches.

Thanks for that, it's appreciated, I can build the PC, recently built my new one and have built a few in the past. I just don't keep up to date with the hardware side of things as much now (children/work tend to take up a lot of time), I will send him the list so he can have a look, he did mention he may be able to stretch to £650 at a push.

if he can throw in the extra £50, I would go for an i3 6100, there are a handful of games that require the 4 threads to run properly, and likely more coming in the future.

The extra £50 could get in an i3 and the Nitro+ which I think is well worth it.

I don't think you'll get much better for this budget. Several people have recommended a copy of win10 for £20 on other sites, saving nearly £80. However, I've no experience with this, so you'd have to do your own research.
