Hey guys!

Okay, friend would like a gaming rig and a 17" TFT monitor all for 600 quid or less. He would also like an upgrade path so it'll have to be either Socket AM2 or 775 depending if you go AMD or Intel.

I have tried myself and so far the best I can do is below

GX-044-CO Connect3D ATI Radeon X1800 XT 256MB GDDR3 AVIVO TV-Out/Dual DVI (PCI-Express) - Retail (GX-044-CO)
£114.99 £114.99
HD-079-SE Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 250GB ST3250620AS SATA-II 16MB Cache - OEM (HD-079-SE)
£51.99 £51.99
CD-038-PO Pioneer DVR-111DBK 16x16 DVD±RW Dual Layer ReWriter - (Black) OEM (CD-038-PO)
£19.99 £19.99
MO-018-OK OcUK Value Hanns-G HC174D 17" LCD Monitor - Silver/Black (MO-018-OK)
£94.99 £94.99
CA-012-AN Antec Super LANBOY Aluminum Super Mini Tower Case - No PSU (CA-012-AN)
£29.99 £29.99
CA-023-EN Enermax Noisetaker 535W EG565AX-VE(W) SFMA ATX2.0 SLI Compliant PSU (CA-023-EN)
£54.99 £54.99
CP-164-AM AMD Athlon 64 3500+ 2.2GHz (Socket AM2) - Retail (CP-164-AM)
£54.99 £54.99
MB-147-AS Asus M2N-E (Socket AM2) PCI-Express DDR2 Motherboard (MB-147-AS)
£57.99 £57.99
MY-030-GL GeIL 1GB (2x512MB) PC5300 667MHz Value DDR2 Dual Channel Kit (GX21GB5300DC) (MY-030-GL)
£79.99 £79.99
Subtotal £559.91
VAT £97.99
Total £657.90

Be great if I could get a Core 2 Duo rig specced up but it's not essential as long as it can play the latest games with eye candy and can be upgraded in future. Also, just to add a spanner in the works, it needs to have an SPDIF out. Preferably Coaxial. [Don't ask me, I know nothing of these things lol].

Cheers for any help guys!

Oooh spot on! I think thats a winner. Thanks burt, and well done semi-pro :D

Edit: OK scratch that, in my eagerness I didn't look properly. HDD is no good - far too small! Although I can probably stick a bigger one in and get rid of the HSF. He isn't OCing [just yet] so wont need it right now. With a bit of fiddling it might work, but other suggestions welcome, AM2 or Conroe.
