Budget gaming rig

Hi guys, well after been away from the world of technology for a while I have finially come back.
I am looking at building a budget gaming rig for a family friend, I just want the options of the main tower, gaming at 1080p, on a 22"/24" monitor. He will be using windows 10 Home 64bit.
My rough idea is

  • Intel i5 6400 2.7Ghz
  • Not sure on the motherboard yet.
  • 16GB DDR4 RAM
  • Samsung 500GB SSD
  • GTX 960 4GB
  • 600W Gold PSU
  • Some kind of case with decent air flow and dust filter

Hello Dan,

H110 motherboard if you think he probably won't upgrade to i5/i7-K. Z170 if there's a chance he might. Get the brand you are most comfortable with if you'll be tasked with helping out when needed after the build.

GPU-wise, with new arrivals expected within the next couple of months or so, price on current models is sure to drop, possibly allowing a step-up (big difference between 960 and 970 for example).

If you want an actual basket spec, provide a budget.
 
Hi, thank you for your ideas so far. after talking again his buget will be around £1200, maybe a little more. i will need monitor, OS. Keyboard/mouse, 2.0 speakers and a decent webcam.
