Hey guys, looking at building a computer for my dad who still running on a Single Core, 9800XT build.

So for his birthday were going to build him a new pc.

He mainly plays Flight Sim (not FSX) as he is limited by his old machine now.

with roughly £600 to spend, what would be the best builds?

(do not need a case, PSU, mouse + keyboard or DVD Drive)

Thanks in Advance

Lee

The Patriot ram has a high recommended voltage for Intel i series chips, I thought you could only go 1.65v max.

No HDD, RJC. Ah - but then no aftermarket cooler in mine. Never mind - we're almost there.

Put a SSD in and wondering if the op could re-use his old one for storage! :D

Edit: bugger, could updated my post above!!!

Hadn't noticed that to be honest, though the intel spec is 1.8 max for DDR3. You are also supposed to keep it no more than 0.5 above Vtt if I recall, so that would mean 1.3 on the Vtt. I need that anyway for my 4GHz OC. If you were unlucky maybe you wouldn't get it running at C7 timings staying within volts spec? Who knows - maybe stick with the XMS3 to be safe, although that's only C9 anyway.

Patriot is good but I wouldnt run the higher voltage stuff on Intel tbh, theres a chance it could fry the memory controller, Id stick to 1.65 stuff like the Corsair
