budget gaming upgrade

looking to upgrade my sons pc.


currently

q9450 clocked at 3.8ghz
4 gig ddr2
6970 gpu
2tb mechanical HDD

ideally don't want to be spending much more than say £300 all in and he'll be gaming at 1080p

where would you sink the money into the above. no qualms about raiding the MM etc

was thinking about

Cheap SSD
2nd hand 280x

which would leave me £150 for a cpu/mobo/ram upgrade or am I pushing it a bit?

What case+PSU do you have?

I'm not sure a £150 cpu/board/RAM will be much better than whats currently being used.

Unless you get everything from the MM and maybe a 2500K+Z77+8Gb DDR3 can be sourced, anything less probably isnt worth the swap.

There is a socket 1150 board here, but it is very basic.

as said, you're looking at the 2500k minimum really (secondhand).

Theresalot of GPU's to choose from (secondhand) so id be focusing on a core upgrade first.
