Hi.

After using a laptop for a few years I really want to get a proper PC again and use a nice BIGGER screen :)

So I've got about £300 for a PC and monitor. Looking to spend around £100 on a nice 22" monitor, so that leaves £200 give or take for a full Intel budget build including case.

I've been out of the loop for three years or so. My last build was based around an overclocked E2140 - Oh those halcyon days!!

The reason I'm going Intel is I've got some vague foggy memories of how to put Intel stuff together - just :). AMD will just confuse me

I have humble requirements.

I WON'T be gaming.

I will only be using the build for web browsing, watching films/iplayer and a little bit of Cubase sequencing. Simples ;)

So after looking around I was thinking of building something around a Intel Pentium G620. Looks like a good chip.

Can anyone recommend a good MOBO for this chip?

I'm also confused about this embedded graphics malarkey. So these CPU's have graphics processors built in? Are they much cop?

I really want the best 2d available, so I was thinking of throwing in a cheap graphics card and eschewing any on-board graphics. Something like a Nvidia G210 to help with video processing.

A nice quiet case would be good too.

Also, I will probably just use Windows XP again. So I will only need 4GB or RAM.

Does this look like I'm on the right track?

Thanks.

I forgot to mention I need a card that can do dual screen, because at sometime in the future I want to add a second monitor for Cubase.

tamzzy - that looks interesting. Does a Celery cut it? Also, is the HD5450 a better choice over the G210??

Cheers.

lol its 1 quid more expensive...and the ram is slower! ;p

yes the 5450 is better than the 210
and yes the celery g530 is fine if you're not gaming

The postage is £4.50 more, for something with less boxes?

The 5450 and G530 will be great. :)

EDIT: The OP can get free postage. Winnner!

Using an SSD with windows XP is a no no boys ;)

The OP would be better off using the developers copy of windows 8 to get TRIM support to keep the SSD healthy :) If he wants to use XP then stick to a mechanical HDD

SataIII compatible mobo. The SSD is smaller in capacity but is faster being sataIII, he can add another HDD later for storage i suppose. The monitor is LED not LCD (uses less power). I didn't bother with the dedicated GPU, he can dual screen off the IGP anyway.

Just thought i'd throw some alternatives in for thought

Thanks guys for your input.

Is a SSD drive necessary now? I mean I was just thinking of getting a 500GB clunker.

Also, my build money is £300 for BOTH the monitor and the base unit, so really it £200 just for the base unit. Some of the baskets are over budget, sorry :)

AMD Llano would be an option too. As you can see this still costs a lil more than you want to pay. You could use the IMP case with the included generic 500W PSU instead if you are desperate to cut the costs but I wouldn't buy it personally.
