Hey All

What would you recommend I buy / build to satisfy the following for my teen daughter...

Gaming : nothing more complex than roblox
Office / Home work : usual stuff a kids going to do for GCSE / College home work
Content creation : she likes to play around with youtube content creation. Nothing to fancy.

Personally prefer an intel chip. Ideally around £500.

Its a stop gap really until I get her a decent laptop in a couple of years time.

Cheers

For a DIY build, maybe something like this:

My basket at OcUK:

Total: £528.94 (includes delivery: £0.00)

Not normally a fan of the 3050 6GB, but should be fine for light gaming. RX 6600 is much more powerful.

There's a b-grade 1650 for £100, which is worth considering to push you under budget. I don't recommend dropping the memory or SSD capacity from 32GB/1TB for quality of life reasons.

'Budget' PSU stock is very light at OCUK.

There's a CPU cooler in the CPU box, it'll do.

Just wanted to say thanks for this. Sorry for the late reply but I went away for New Year so this went on to the back burner. This looks like a great build for the money. I think I want to swap out the graphics card for something a bit better so I can do some reasonable gaming on it. This look good ? Our monitors only do 1080p so thinking this will be a good setup.

The PSU seems to have jumped in price. Any cheaper alternatives worth considering ?

I have chosen the right RX 6600 card ?

Thanks

The 6600 is 20-30% faster than the 3050, do not buy a 3050.

Airflow - you haven't exactly got mega hot components so whilst those cheap cases aren't 'great' for airflow it'd be ok. I'd suggest a different case but it depends what you need from it.

A £120 PSU is nice but overkill for that build, lots are out of stock on OCUK but you can get something decent for £80ish. For the specs and the fact you said you'll be going with a laptop eventually you might want to pick up a 600W/650W be quiet! or something to tide you over

Even a 550/650W would be more than enough for a build like this. Sticking to one of the bigger/more well known brands such as be quiet, cooler master, seasonic, corsair should be a safe bet just depends what is available and in stock.

Any suggestions on parts to swap them out for at Overclockers ? Or should I just source those bit from other providers.

went a bit crazy having a look what a am4 build would cost now, and of course went rgb as kids involved

From above, if you don't want to wait for the 6600 gpu, get the 7600 gpu below
it's the new card of the6600 and 26% faster...seeing a the new gen is coming out end of this month the 6600 will be 2 generations old, so getting on a bit

also, just for midground, put the phanteks 750W psu in for £85. it's gold rated, 750w so will power something a bit better if you upgrade, and fully modular, compared to the semi modular 550w bronze rated corsair psu you picked..shame the tuf psu you originally picked was £79 for the whole of dec on offer

case comes with 7 rgb fans also. bit more than the kolink but front mesh also so s/b ok cooling

not sure if 5600x comes with steaslth cooler or not..there's the 5600 cpu also but only £1 in it, so 5600x is faster..thermalright assassin king se is £20 otherwise
