Budget projector and screen recommendations

Hi,

Want to dip my toe into projector screen setup. Budget of around £300.
Already have plasma TV and mission 5.1 + Yamaha avr setup.

Can someone recommend what projector and screen to go for?
I was thinking rainforest basics 100" screen for like £60, and then some Chinese branded projector that gets rave reviews?
Again something like elephas gc333 looking at rainforest reviews for £70.

1080p is fine and would be projecting at a distance about 3-4m, ceiling hung.
Room has blackout blinds and is for late evening viewing, movies and boxsets.

Wary of spending more than 300ish as not sure I'll get on with it and get much use out of it, novelty might wear off etc.

Can I do better within budget?

Many thanks.

Ok so I'll be that snob. For this money with ANY kind of expectation? don't bother.

It's like a scam, too good to be true. Not going to happen without looking like ass hat.

I'd agree with the above, i wouldn't expect any decent results for this budget.

If you can up it a bit you might get a semi decent second hand 1080p projector (Optoma HD300x for around £450 quid), and then perhaps another £100 for an Optoma or Sapphire pull down screen - so I'd say you're looking at minimum £550 for something reasonably ok.

If buying second hand though be wary of condition and also factor in the likelihood of a new bulb.

I own an HW40ES, Sony. Used on eBay can be £4-450. Then add a cheap screen that stays flat and you'd get a great image for the price.
