hello :)

my mum needs a new pc, and has asked me to build one for her. it needs to be very cheap, £250 - £300 ish (closer to £250 would be great).

is it possible to build with this budget?

EDIT: sorry forgot to mention, she will be using it for word processing and internet browsing, and also using publisher with quite big files >800MB

cheers

ali

Do you have anything already? Peripherals? Do you need operating system / office?

Might want to have a look at this:

Or maybe:

To save a bit of cash it might make more sense to go with 2GB of RAM and then upgrade later if possible (use a single 2GB stick). Also if you can find a cheaper miniITX compatible case that would save a bit more.

Redmint - That one looks like a good bet. Although hellarda are you likely to want to upgrade at any stage? If you are it might be worth spending the extra on DDR3 RAM and a full AM3 motherboard. Then you can drop a triple or quad core in at any stage if she decides she needs a bit more oomph.

nah she wouldnt need to upgrade (and i want the 4gb of DDR2 cos then i can nab 2gb for myself :D, she will never no haha )

thanks for the help

IMO redmint's spec is similar to what i built a couple weeks ago however i would go with the AM3 and DDR3 for upgradability and drop the case down to the cheap asus one and drop the cpu to the 240 from the 245 as 100mhz is by no means worth the extra cost. Just overclock it they do 3.2 on stock volts no problem.

I believe it came to £288 when i built one with that spec
