I thought I'd approach my new build differently than usual. Every build I've done historically I've tried to make last as long as possible and there's a point at which it would be silly to carry on spending money on better components, known as diminishing returns. Usually I've gone for mostly budget components apart from the PSU and Graphics Card, then over time squeezed as much out of it through overclocking and upgrading as I can.

So as a projection does anyone have any realistic ideas of how long such a PC could last and how much money one would need to spend. I can normally squeeze about 3 or 4 years out of a new build before I get bored of my lagging spec.

Components required:
Motherboard
CPU
RAM
PSU
Graphics Card

Depends entirely on what fps you like to play at and the monitor resolution.

For example your average gamer an i5 will last 5 years I would say, but if you love to upgrade and always want the best stuff you may only have it for 2.
