Hi,
I'm new to all this build your own PC lark, I was talking to some chaps about it recently and they suggested some specs. I've come up with this one below, if someone wouldn't mind taking a look at it and let me know what you think. I'm mainly wanting to know.. are all the bits compatible with each other (or will it melt and burn when I turn it on) and how could I improve on the system (performance wise) without spending too much extra?

I wanted it mainly for gaming and using the interweb.

-Intel Core 2 Duo E8500 LGA775 'Wolfdale' 3.16GHz (1333FSB) - (£140.99)
-Hyundai Blue H H94W 19" Widescreen LCD Monitor - Black (£93.99)
-PowerColor ATI Radeon HD 4670 PCS 1024MB GDDR3 TV-Out/Dual DVI/HDMI (PCI-Express) - (£70.49)
-OcUK 4GB (2x2GB) PC2-6400C5 800MHz DDR2 Dual Channel Kit -(£35.24)
-Microsoft Windows Vista Home Basic SP1 64-Bit - OEM (66G-02141) -(£68.14)
-Antec NSK 4480B Mini Tower Case (Black) - 380W Earth Watts PSU -(£61.09)
-MSI P31 Neo2-FR Intel P31 (Socket 775) PCI-Express DDR2 Motherboard -
(£49.34)
-Seagate Barracuda 7200.11 500GB SATA-II 32MB Cache - OEM (ST3500320AS) -(£45.81)
-Belkin F5D7000UK 54Mbps Wireless Desktop PCI Network Adapter -(£16.44)
-Samsung SH-S223F/BEBE 22x DVD±RW SATA Dual Layer ReWriter (Black) - OEM
(£15.26)
Logitech S-150 2.0 USB Speaker System - OEM -(£8.21)

TOTAL - approx £622 delivered.

Am I missing anything that I'll need? (I have keyboard/mouse).
Any advice is greatly appreciated!

I wouldn't get home basic if I were you. Go for home premium 64bit vista rather than home basic. If you are worried about compatability with older programs then use XP Home SP3 32 bit if that is why you have chosen Home basic. Home premium includes aero, making vista a whole lot nicer to use and home basic misses out some other features although maybe someone else can name them if I am correct? Anyway apart from the os, your system seems fine, though I'd also get non-usb speakers, but that is just me.

Will I have any hardware issues if I stick with my XP home sp3? Does it support the 4gb of ram that I waned etc?

Also I managed to buy a monitor from a "popular auction site" for £50 so with the money I saved I changed the motherboard to this instead.. Gigabyte GA-EP43-DS3 Intel P43 (Socket 775) PCI-Express DDR2 Motherboard (£76.36)

Whats wrong with USB speakers? Are they rubbish?
