Hi all,

Have a friend looking to buy a PC to run ONYX, and i have persuaded her it would be better to just build from scratch than buy a prebuilt

Link to software : http://www.onyxgfx.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/02/ONYX-11_RIP-Comparison_2014.pdf

This is what she has put together on another website:

2 x 4GB Corsair DDR3 Vengeance Jet Black Low Profile, PC3-12800 (1600), Non-ECC, CAS 9-9-9-24, XMP, 1.5V
2TB Seagate ST2000DM001 Baracuda 7200.14 SATA 3 6GB/s 7200rpm 64MB Cache 8ms OEM NCQ
Intel core i7 4770, 1150, Haswell, Quad Core, 3.4Ghz, 3.9Ghz Turbo, 1200mhz GPU, 34x ratio, 84W
DVD RW
ASUS H81M-PLUS, Intel H81, S 1150, DDR3, SATA III, 6GB/s / PCIE 2.0 (x16) D-Sub/DVI-D/HDMI, Micro ATX
Silverstone SST-PS09B USB 3.0 Micro ATX Tower

Total of 452.68 Inc VAT and shipping

does that look OK? can OcUK offer better for cheaper?

Any help is greatly appreciated :)

Can you remove that picture, it breaks the rules.. (you should know, you've been here long enough).

Write out a list of components and an overall price please..

As for the advice:

Surely and SSD would be a good idea. Depending on the size of the files a 120gb or 250gb SSD would suffice. Even if there were more data, it could be stored on the HDD and transfered to the SSD when needed.

Also, get the 4771, its better than the 4770, extra instruction cores.

Apologies, i had removed anything that would specifically show what website it was, will type out info instead :)

Instead of ONYX she could be looking at just being able to run the newest photoshop without any hitches or slow downs if that may make a difference?

Very similar requirements, though photoshop will be a bit lighter on the CPu, which is good. Though really you should up the RAM to 16GB.

This would be my choice:

YOUR BASKET
1 x Intel Core i5-4430 3.00GHz (Haswell) Socket LGA1150 Processor - Retail £131.99
1 x TeamGroup Vulcan GOLD 16GB (2x8GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C9 1600MHz Dual Channel Kit (TLYD316G1600HC9DC01) £107.99
1 x Toshiba SSD HDTS212EZSTA 9.5mm 128GB Solid State Hard Drive - Retail £61.99
1 x Seagate Barracuda 2TB 7200RPM SATA 6Gb/s 64MB Cache - OEM (ST2000DM001) HDD £59.99
1 x Asus H81M-K Intel H81 (Socket 1150) DDR3 Micro ATX Motherboard £37.99
1 x Silverstone SST-PS09B Precision Midi-Tower - Black £31.99
1 x LiteOn IHAS124-14 24x DVD±RW SATA ReWriter (Black) - OEM £14.99
Total : £456.53 (includes shipping : £8.00).

I assume you have a PSU already?

What could we do to also get a PSU in there as well then..could potentially scrap the SSD, i dont think its something that would make a tonne of difference to her to be fair?
