My friend needs a new graphics card and has given me a ceiling price of £200, so want to get him the best for between £150 - £200.

He is going to build the rest of his system at a later date so isn't too bothered if the card gets throttled back a bit for now. His 8800gt died (as did another friends only 1 month before) so anything will be better.

However i have convinced him to get BF3 and also he will be getting Guild Wars 2. His res is 1680x1050 and currently has a C2Duo (2.66ghz not overclocked) 4gb of DDR XMS memory and the PSU without having taken it out said 460w in big writing on the side.

Initially i was thinking of maybe a GTX 560 (i have the gtx460) or the 6970, which would free him a little spare cash for a cheap soundcard (possibly Asus Xonar DG 5.1) and cheap headset (again possibly Plantronics GameCom 367 OR another one of the numbered ones in this brand, seems good price?)

So what do you guys think would be best bang for buck for the job in hand as i know BF3 is quite demanding.

Another option was if i was to sell him my GTX460 and spend the difference and i upgraded to one of the newer cards (but then didn't want him to feel i was offloading a rubbish card as i do think the GTX460 is still capable for when guild wars 2 is out)

Thoughts guys?

If you can handle the heat and want easy out of the box performance get the 480.

If not? then yeah, the MSI TFIII 7850 seems very reasonable. Mind you, if you're not fussed about counting frames then the 6950 2gb Gibbo posted earlier is also a fine choice :)
