Hi all, im after some cheap upgrade advice from you lot. Basically, I could do with moving away from this dell Celeron system which has served my general computing tasks well this past 12 months. I want to upgrade on a bit of a budget, ideally something that will play total war 2, FEAR, cs etc without spending much over £100

I have a gig of DDR-3500 RAM, which I would like to utilise, along with a case, monitor and other peripherals.

For that £100+, Im looking for a motherboard/CPU & graphics card, in what flavours I don’t care. I just want good bang for the buck.(bless the old XP1700). What am I looking at in my price range, AMD/Intel? Hopefully I might be able to pick up a some good stuff off the forums.

Oh and preferably I’d like a system that I can overclock to death!

Add another £90 for a new HD & other bits and I should be back gaming on my PC soon enough!

:)

CPU, board and graphics and overclocking....... all for £100, wow you'd be lucky to get anything half decent unless you buy used parts.

No way you gonna get new parts in that budget.

Sorry just being realistic.

You could try a socket 939 route but 9800 pro is the level of graphics you can expect.

OCUK had dfi lanparty m/b's for £30. 9800pro can be had 2nd hand for £30-40 so you are looking to be lucky getting an amd athlon64 3000+ with venice core.

That's the only way I can see it happening unless you go down the P4 northwood route and clock the hell out of it.

DFI LanParty UT RDX200CF-DR Crossfire (Socket 939) ~ £30
OcUK GeForce 7300 GT 256MB GDDR3 HDTV/DVI (PCI-Express) ~ £58

Both from OCUK)

= total of £88 and try to pick up a venice for as cheap as pos (prob around £30) is the best I can think of. It's 939 tho so the upgrade path is obviously limited. Also slightly overbudget but you set a pretty tough challenge.

The 7300gt is apparently not too far short of a 7600gt because it's the ddr3 variety. The DFI is apparently slightly tricky to set up but a fearsome overclocker.
