Budget upgrade from 560ti

Usually the members market but I believe you need 1,000 posts to use that. Know anyone personally on here with access to the MM?

If the 390 has 8GB ram i'd be tempted by that.

If you're interested here some info on how graphics card ram compliments system ram. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0t4uLh2ZK04

As you only have 8 GB system ram i'd aim for 6 GB+ of graphics card ram. Might not be possible on a budget though.

I picked up a RX 480 on the members market for £180 a while back. That would suit you perfectly but the miners have probably bumped that price up a bit. :(

Well.. I offered the guy 150 as it had a fan blade snapped off but I think he’s going to fix the fan and sell it for more than that :(

I’ve watched that video about the RAM, it’s very informative... I’ve been thinking about swapping to 16gb of faster RAM anyway because I think id get my moneys worth out of it before swapping to DDR4 so i think that’d help a lot?

I’m annoyed I missed out on something like that RX 480 but I thought can’t go wrong for £100 on the 780 ti and it should see me through a couple of years just as well as a 3gb 1060. Had to make a quick decision on it but I think it’s the right one. Just hope it’s a good overclocker lol.

The 970 would be ideal for you but even on the MM, the last few have gone for £130+, and as you won't be seeing the MM anytime soon then Ebay is your best bet. If you check you will see quite a few have gone for around the £150 mark in the last few days. Some very good models as well like an MSI one and a EVGA one. ~£180 seems to be about the maximum but I wouldn't pay that much.

The bay is a crap source of cards, because you either have to pay more than what the card is worth or be constantly searching for best offer options and hope the seller is looking for a quick sale.

I mean its all well and good going round telling people to buy a GTX970 for £120 because you saw one sell for that on the MM, but the realty is that the bay is atleast an extra 20% higher on average (not actual figures but you get the point).

A 780ti for £100 is a fairly good deal. R9 390 for £150 isnt terrible as its effectively RX 480 performance.

If I wanted a card right now for 1080p and didnt have MM access id be buying a 3GB 1060, Seen them for £180 which is a good deal imo.

Yeah this is the whole problem with eBay, prices are just ridiculous on some things. Gumtree and Facebook can be a much better bet I’ve found, seems like everyone goes to eBay if they’re after top money.

I did almost buy a 1060 3gb but thought an overclocked 780ti represented good value at £100.

I did miss a GTX 980 on eBay for £195 shipped which might have been an interesting option... but then compared to the 780 ti it’s 30% more performance for (nearly) 100% more money so IDK lol

That's a generalisation that does not always apply. I have purchased 18 GPU's recently from Ebay (for friends/clients) and got some very good deals that are not 20% above what they go for on the MM.

The last two 970's on have MM have gone for £140 inc and £135 inc
(for those that have access to the MM here are the links ;))

Back in Oct there were FIVE MSI 970's (which along with Gigabyte & EVGA are among the better brands) were going for £106 inc

In the last two days these 3 cards (MSI and EVGA) have gone for £144 inc, £153 inc and £158 inc

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/EVGA-Nvi...670413&hash=item4413c823dd:g:pcUAAOSwbwJaR8q6

And if you don't mind Inno you could have got this one for.£103 inc

With the MM 970's can pop up relatively rarely and you have no buyer protection should things not be to your liking. I've been using the MM for over 15 years and had a few issues with purchases that I would not have had on Ebay.

On Ebay you can set up search email alerts for the exact item you want, and by using the (-) modifier you can remove unwanted words. i.e. NVidia 970 -faulty -spares -repair

Yes of course there are many 970's that are sold for over the odds but as I have proven with empirical data above, to say that "The bay is a crap source of cards" is simply a naive generalisation. One should be careful to avoid this in all walks of life. If you had said "The bay CAN be a crap source of cards" now that is a different thing all together because it allows for the fact that the Bay can be a great source of cards, which it can be.

I do agree however that if it were my money and unless I can get a GTX 970 for ~£150 or less I would definitely stretch to get a 1060 3GB for ~£180.

Got my 780 ti in yesterday and been messing around with it, flashed the skyn3t BIOS for a little more overclocking headroom. Certainly a good value card at the money I paid, mixing it with the 980s in Heaven and Valley and faster than the 970s.

The card I’ve got isn’t a great overclocker but happy with the results I’ve got nevertheless.

Was looking forward to seeing what upgrading from 8gb 1333 to 16gb 2400 could do but I don’t think it’ll be much in terms of speed - I’ve already been running my 1333 kit at 1866mhz and forgotten I’d ever overclocked it lol
