hi all,

ive just flashed my buffalo g125 to the tomato firmware successfully and i want to improve the wireless signal strength on it. Its good but I want to know if its worth tweaking it and if there are any ways to make it more stable/quicker/wider radius?

if theres any advice you could give me it'd be much appreciated.

cheers.

bob.

you cant do much. i have the exact same router.

the only thing you can go is increase the transmit power

this can be done by going to the advance tab, then clicking wireless and increasing the default transmit power from 42mw to 84mw

84mw apparently the the safe limit in UK

you dont want to increase it to much. as it might fry your brains. also will cause tx and rx collisions

its a shame the antenna cant be replaced. as its fixed, otherwise i would have suggested to get a higher gain antenna

hope this helps

not much you can do besides that to be honest.

your best bet is to sell it on ebay. and buy a wifi router that you can replace the antenna.

if you want more range, they you might want to consider 802.11n
which has better range and performance speed.

a router which recently got released is the wrt160nl which is Linux powered. also has usb port for media sharing and upnp server and also external antennas which are detachable and replaceable.

has a 400mhz processor and 32ram and 8mb flash rom, which is very high for a router. dd-wrt should be supporting it. i think they already have a test image available for it. but should definately be supported in near future
