Buffalo Terrastation or other NAS - running Linux?

Hi all,

I'm after 1TB of Network Attached Storage. I've come across the Buffalo Terrastation Pro boxes which look ideal. However, I can't find out if they run a version of Linux. I need a NAS that is, and has the RSync daemon available so I can wing files straight over onto it.

Anyone know of such a thing, or can the Buffalo do what I need?

Not sure about the buffalo but if you have a spare old pc why not try this http://www.freenas.org/

should have all the features you are looking for. I've not used it but a mate highly reccomends it and moved from a netgear solution to this.

the terrastation does run a version of linux afaik

synology have a gigabit nas device that is all singing/dancing for around 175quid plus cost of your drive (think it only takes 1 drive though)

Thanks chaps. I'm aware of FreeNAS et al, but the added cost of building up a PC (outright cost, and maintenance) just isn't worth the hassle for the price of the Terrastations.
