Clutch feeling weird earlier, check symptoms online at work, probably slave cylinder, took it to garage after work 1st to pay the £420 bill for changing wheel bearing and rear shocks and 2nd to get his diagnosis on this issue.

SLave cylinder gone, so slave cylinder, clutch and DMF will need changing. online information suggests possibility of start motor needing replacement as well.

Looking at a bill of around £1000 :(

Is the slave cylinder internal to the gearbox? Why does the clutch need changing, has it been contaminated with fluid?

Don't you just love modern motors with their technically superior engineering!

Had to change my slave cylinder last weekend!

Cost £30 and took 15 minutes!

(In all seriousness, While I can see that there might be some technical benefits from using concentric slave cylinders. I would defy any normal driver to be able to tell the difference in day to day use and there is certainly no benefit I can think of that would come anywhere near offsetting the massive disadvantages! (See OP above))

I suspect it's primarily a packaging advantage; no external protrusions on the bell housing and less room required inside the bell housing to accommodate a release fork.

Car is 10 years old and has done 90,000.
It is an ST220, the amount of labour involved taking the gearbox out (sub frame drop job) I would be silly not to replace clutch and flywheel at same time.

Oh and to make things worse, the garage can't fix it till the 23rd, so borrowed my missus focus, my journey to work is just over an hour and due to the battery going flat 2 weeks ago the radio is asking for a code which she can't find grrrrrr

There is online software that will give you the code based on the s/n on the back of the Hu

So called in at the garage tonight to find out what we are looking at

£300 labour
£540 parts (manufacturer = LUK)

or I could buy this
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/261190806204?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649

So the question is, do I save £180 and then pay labour again if anything is wrong with the kit I linked to or pay garage prices and then they are liable for any additional labour if parts are wrong.

I did message the seller and that kit is definitely for the 6 speed box.

On a side note, borrowed the garage's radio keys to remove radio and the code was written on a sticker on top of it. :)

Think I'd be tempted to go with the bay parts and keep my fingers crossed that it stays together; on the assumption that the garage are happy to fit parts they haven't supplied.

Result with the radio - maybe its a sign ;)

Pay the garage prices and take the warranty.

I just had a clutch/DMF/slave replaced and faced a similar decision - in the end I went with the garage parts out of laziness and glad I did as one of the new parts was faulty and the garage had to do the job again under the warranty.

£840 vs £660.
£180 represents a 21% saving.

I do budget for car repairs but not to the tune of £1200+ a year :(

My garage will fit parts that I supply no problems. Last time I supplied part I found rear shocks on ebay at half the price Ford charged (motor factors did not stock them), he got half way through the job and found they were wrong so I had to send them back and get him to order for me anyway.

However the difference between the previous auction and this one is that this auction lists the part ONLY for the ST220.

Need more support opinions lol, what would you do ?

I had changed the DMF and clutch on my old car. For that I bought the parts on ebay like you are considering and then had a garage fit them. I had no issues but I can understand the appeal of warranty cover.
