Buggered overclock?

I think I may have killed something on my setup, I'm scared it could be the soundcard.

I was overclocking, upped the MCH to 1.29V and CPU to 1.51V when having a go at upping the FSB. I managed to get it to boot into windows on 450FSB, maybe I was being greedy. I then started playing around with the CPU voltages while I was priming with uGuru utility. I changed one voltage and the system hanged so I rebooted, went back to my original clockspeeds and now when Windows loads (Vista 64), I get a nasty hissing sound through speakers and headphones. Anyone have any ideas? :(

P.S. I've reset the BIOS and the problems still remains.

P.S.S. Reinstalled sound card drivers, still nothing. Device manager says everything is working fine. Perhaps I've pooped ther motherboard?
/worried.

Thanks for the reply, but ironically, I've just done a System Restore and the sound has all of a sudden returned. Problem solved I guess.

Lesson 1.
Real Overclockers use the Bios, not software.

Thanks for life tip mate. I was actually using both.

It's a hassle having to restart every you want to up the voltage by 0.1V only to find it does work.

As it happens this is my first overclock.

But like you said, that must not make me a real overclocker

Can cause issues with stability

Its worth the hassle to be honest

As it happens this is my first overclock.:
Ive got a 1.8Ghz C2D at 3.4Ghz but what would i know.

It makes you an unsuccesfull overclocker

"Ive got a 1.8Ghz C2D at 3.4Ghz but what would i know."

what settings do you have to get it at 3.4?

cant seem to get mine past 2.72 tbh

1.6V on the CPU and 1.7 on the NB, both under water on an older bios, the latest one for my mobo wont allow me past 3ghz.
Dont try and OC the cpu and mem at the same time.

You misunderstand, I was using that utility then once found something stable would use the BIOS afterwards to save settings.

Its worth the hassle to be honest

TBH, it's not.

Ive got a 1.8Ghz C2D at 3.4Ghz but what would i know.

Good for you mate, it still makes it my first overclock.

So a 3.2Ghz overclock on a Quad isn't successful...

No mate, I got an unstable 3.6 overclock.

My 3.2Ghz is fine :)

Some people are limited by only using air cooling, not everyone has the opportunity to use water cooling.

But thanks for worrying.

You'll also be pleased to know that I wasn't running Prime when I changed the volts :)
