Bugs in games

I was thinking and realised that I have never come across a single bug on final fantasy 7,9,10 or 10-2. These are massive games with playtimes of 60+ hours and to not have any bugs is an impressive thing. Why cant all the other companies take some time to iron out all the bugs like these guys do. Oblivion for an example is a complete joke in terms of crashes and glitches.

Probably because Squaresoft take their time with the games, and know they should sell really well so don't try and skimp on the costs associated with testing them?

Also, normally by the time FF games reach the west haven't they been out for a while in Japan?
Which means there is the chance that bugs in the Japanese version may get fixed prior to the international release (i'm fairly sure they get additional testing anyway as part of the process that includes translating them for the English release).

I'm 100% confident there will be something that's an 'undocumented feature', you just haven't found it yet.

But without sounding like a broken record, developers are rushing the games out to ensure they have the "Made for 360" badge in their portfolio.

And most of the FF games are beta-tested by dozens upon dozens (if not hundreds) of dedicated, full-time hard-core gamers, something that the West hasn't yet embraced.

most of the final fantasy games are console games and each type of console have the same spec, therefore much easier to test unlike pc games. Not one pc is exactly the same and its not feasible to test every combination in a pc spec.

What about the famous W-Item glitch in FF7? That's a pretty blatent bug.

Can't comment on the other FFs, because I've not played them, but I imagine they could well have similar problems. You're rarely likely to see actual crashes and freezing in console games because you simply don't get those kind of problems with closed systems, but there are still plenty of mistakes in coding that lead to unintentional things happening, like the example above.

EDIT: Also, Oblivion is not only a ported game, but 360 games run on an OS, which could well affect its stability.

I played some of the final fantasys on the pc and they didn't appear to have any bugs either, so it cant be just because its a console game.

You obviously didn't play FFVIII on PC then.

Havn't encountered any gaming crashes with oblivion on my 360 yet.

The problem with the games being compared is that the FF series are much more story driven which in a way allows the game developers to iron out more glitches as they know exactly what is going to happen next whereas something like oblivion has so much diversity it is difficult for them to cover all bases as there is an almost infinite amount of obtions to take.

I would agree though a lot of the 360 launch titles did seem to have a few albeit minor glitches which could be due to them being 'rushed' however there are a lot fewer than on any pc game to date. Hell at least the game runs without requiring a patch.

Care to share these bugs? I spent over 350 hours playing this game and didn't find one bug.

Must have just been me then :) . I had endless problems with crashing, freezing, graphical corruption etc.

PC or PSX

:edit: DUHHHHHH I should read :o, well that'll explain why it crashes, the PC version I got after playing the PSX version royally sucked. The music was actually different which annoyed me no end being such a die hard FFVIII'er

What's that, one PC user didn't have bugs with a game, and another didn't, since they probably had very different setups? Could that be point proven? :p

Again, as I said before, surely the W-Item glitch is a pretty massive bug in FF7. And that's the kind of bug you're far more likely to see in console games. Gameplay bugs, not graphical bugs or crashes or freezing etc, because those problems tend to occur on PC systems where the setup is unknown. However, I'd bet there are probably quite a few gmaeplay bugs in the Final Fantasy games that you aren't even aware of being bugs, because they're simply part of the game.

EDIT: Although I will concede that the FFs are pretty damn well-written from what I've gathered through playing them. Without seeing the code itself I can't really say much, but it does seem to be very neatly put together.

Whats the W-Item bug? Ive never encountered it so I can't see how it is a massive bug.
