Right - I have had grubs in pasta before but today we opened a half full container of flour and surface was covered in very small bugs - They look like Harvest flies/thunder flies/Thrips.

We buy our flour in those cardboard containers with plastic lids to stop the bugs getting in or so we thought - So if they are Harvest flies I could understand it as they get everywhere - if it is do they now feed on flour and breed - Is there a way to stop them and also could they be in the flour when you bought it.

Had the exact same thing earlier this year, went into the pantry, happened to glance at the (airtight so i thought) flour jar and saw it moving, whole thing went in the bin, like been pointed out they are 99% gunna be weevils.

Yea I had them in the summer too.

Went a bit mental and chucked everything in the cupboard out and bleached it. Proper overkill, but still

Thanks Lads - Did a belated google on them - should have looked first - as said most of our stuff is in plastic containers but if they come as eggs in sealed packets from new there's not much you can do.

Google also said you get them in Rice - biscuits - dried fruit -semolina etc.

Might spend a morning giving cupboards a good clean out.

Make a new shopping list as well

Personally I'd feel better after cleaning the cupboards if I noticed an infestation. Whilst it might not be required it would give a little peace of mind, not to mention how annoying it would be if you bought more flour/dry goods and then discovered more bugs shortly after.

Yeah I have read you should freeze flour first to kill and eggs/bugs. I had flour beetles once in a bag I bought and chucked everything in that cupboard to make sure I eradicated them.

You're lucky if you only have weevils in your flour. I feed my lizards weevils as part of their diet, however it's a little known fact that weevils possess the ability to teleport so we find them all over the place rather than where they're supposed to be.

What a complete waste of time and effort. Don't bother, just buy new flour when you're shopping next.
Everything else will be fine. ;)

Have you ever had them? if so you'd know it's not a complete waste of time, it's prudent to eradicate them for good.

We had a massive infection they were everywhere in the flour all over the cupboard shelves, other food stuffs and behind the cupboards as well.

Pretty much had to junk £100 quids worth of food and store the new food in boxes in another room for 4 weeks whilst using bleach to clean the cupboards every day. I thought the end was never going to come, waking up every morning to find new Weevils, drove me mad.

Eventually we had the confidence they were all dead and no more have appeared since.

Take away their food source and they'll die out with the help of some bleach and flamethrower :)

To prevent this I put flour in the freezer for a couple of days before storing in an air tight kilner jar.
