Buil Spec for Photoshop?

Hi Folks
My home built PC's just died, gets power but won't boot and I don't want to start throwing money at a 5 year old PC.
Old spec is
Intel core 2 duo E6750 2.66Ghz
Gigabyte GA_P35C_DSR
2GB Geil PC6400C4
Antec solo quiet case
BFG card, I forget the rest
Corsair HX520W

This was pretty quick back in the day but has been painfully slow of late, I mostly use it for photoshop / illustrator work, very little gaming.
In order to get back up and running again quick without doing a heap of research I'd really appreciate your help which OC bundle + graphics card I should go for if I use my old case & power supply. Or the easiest option, which OC ready built system I should aim for? It's 5 years since I was on top of the best buys.

I'm trying to spend as little as possible given I've just bought an Acer i5 laptop which is handling photoshop as quick as I need it until I get a replacement.

Cheers
Al

by as little as possible what do you mean?

hyper threaded cpu 16gb ram is a bit of overkill but the only argument for 16gb is desktop apps like photoshop and rendering software.

scope to increase to 32 if you needed (unlikely)

an SSD would go a long way and we are in the middle of a price war if you hadn't noticed.

you will probably need a new psu as 5 years is a long time to have one.

If that's too much you could easily get by with a 2500k with 8GB of Kingston hyper x would leave you some change for other items too.

All depends how much you want to upgrade

Thanks for the quick reply.
The corsair PSU is only a year old and the case is OK.
I was trying to keep as close to £500 so your second build looks good but I would need a new HD and OS. All my work is on 2 separate 1tb internal drives. Can you please advise on a drive and graphics card?
Much appreciated
Al

hard drives will force the price up a bit.

Do you play any games? If not then a graphics card shouldn't be too hard to spec

Very rarely, the odd dable on CODuty but photoshop is the most important consideration.
If you can give me a complete build spec including PSU, HD and graphics card based on the second option that would be great. I'll find the extra cash.
Thanks again
Al

If you want to spend as little as possible but get the best bang for your pounds, then you don't need to spend a lot on a rig for Photoshop and light gaming..

Hi Folks
I'd soldiered on with my old rig and a laptop but now need to build the new rig.
Can you please advise on any update to these recommendations?

I need to run Photoshop, Lightroom, Illustrator, no gaming.
I'd like to keep it around £800 incl OS, one HD for the OS, one for programmes, one for storage.

I'd really appreciate an update

Cheers
Al
