build a gaming machine

I am looking into build a gaming machine. I'm willing to spend but am totally lost when it comes to finding parts that are both good and compatible with each other.I am ready to spend $400 - $500... Can anybody suggest me a good configuration?

Any suggestions will be appreciated!!

Also are we just talking about the tower or is it the full OS monitor keyboard mouse speaker shabang?

Hmmm his location shows Texas which means that is not much money..especially is if it nearer $300.

Register at HardOCP and get people there to spec you a PC with American prices instead.
