I have the option of laying my hands on a s478 3.2Ghz cpu for cheap and building up a system for less than £300, but I am wondering if it's worth the effort, below is the intended spec: -

Silverstone SG01B (most expensive part )
Cheap 400w AT PSU
P4 3.2Ghz
Biostar mATX P4M900-M4 mobo (VIA)
XFX 8500GT
160Gb Seagate sata2
2Gb DDR2 (Yes the above mobo supports DDR2 :p )
DVD-RW.

Pretty much put the above together for <=£300

If someone could confirm whether the above is worth the effort or suggest another alternative it would be highly appreciated.

Thx,
ManC

Not really worth spending money on old tech like the s478 3.2Ghz.

You could build a much faster system that is dualcore for the same money.

Ok its 40 quid over budget but you get the latest chipset.

Nice overclocking

Dualcore

Destroying the P4 too in terms of speed.

Hmm... If I was to goto dual core I would want to go for the Core2Duo chips but that blows my budget out of the water... what's an equivlent to the entry level core2duo chips...

the system easyrider recommended will blow that p4 3.2 away in everything , you should be able to overclock it pretty well too

this reminded me easy i need to leave you trust for that ide-sata thingymebobby :p

if youve already got an older computer at the moment that you can borrow parts ;like an AGP card and DDR from then i can recommend the ASrock dual vsta or whatever its called

the one that takes ddr/ddr2 agp and pci E. running a e4300 at 2.7 in mine with DDR1 and AGP and no problems at all :)

Yes it will totally wipe the PIV 3.2 off the earth, also reminds me Easy needs to leave me trust for a card reader thingy :p

off topic but i cant actually find the button for viewing trusts lol , edit- nevermind how could i miss it :o

on topic : op , what system are you running at the moment and can you use parts from it ?
