Hello,

I would like to put together a new computer in a month or two and wanted some advice on a build. I bascially need everything on a pretty flexable budget of around a grand. I am keeping my laptop and old pc for work, so I can focus almost entierly on gaming.

I have pretty much just stolen builds from other threads, so forgive me if this is getting old;

AMD Phenom 2 x4 955 black edition
Asus M4A87TD Evo AMD 870
Patriot g series 4gb ddr3 1333mhz
HIS iCooler V ATI Radeon HD5850
Corsair TX 650W ATX SLi
Fractal Design Define R2, Silver Arrow
Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro Rev2 CPU cooler
Sony Optiarc AD-7260S 24x DVD±RW SATA
Samsung SpinPoint F3 500GB SATA-II
BenQ G2220H 21.5" LED Backlight

This all comes to around £1020

I chose the power supply, the case and the cpu cooler because they seem to be a good balance between performance and noise level. It would be great if I could get a relativly quiet graphics card too. I would also really like to add an ssd for the os, but they are a touch too much at the moment :(

I was also wondering if it would give a huge performance boost if I went with a phenom 2 x4 965 or an i5 750 instead, espcially since I plan to overclock the cpu a bit? As far as I can tell, it doesn't make a huge difference in gaming.

Any advice would be appreciated, espcially on the ram and motherboard.

what you have chosen at the moment is good.

how about a modular psu for a tidier build?

a 965 isnt worth the extra over a 955. i7 750 is more expensive

But my main advice is to come back a day or so before your ready to order your items, prices change on a weekly basis, and so I may be able to improve on it.

Thanks very much. I thought to get a build and then shop around, but if prices change that quickly, I will take your advice and come back to this in a few weeks.

For games the i5 750 is better but I would still go down the AMD route, sooner or later you will want to upgrade the system and the AMD route seems to be more future proof, also the i5 750 cost more, and a decent mobo would cost a lot more aswell.

Your your parts look really good, one thing the R2 is a really quite case but from reading review you might need to add a few extra fans before you get the heat down to the same level as other cases. You could also take a look at the CM 690 II thats a great case aswell, either way isnt bad.

good luck
