Hi guys just wanting a bit of advice on a build I'm doing I know X99 just came out but can't really justify the extra 300 pounds or so.

CPU Core i7 4790k = £250
MB Asus maximus VII Formula =£250
RAM 16gb Corsair Vengence Pro 2400mhz =£135
SSD Samsung 840 Evo 500gb =£180
GPU's R9 290 x2 in crossfire =£600

What u think already have a psu Evga 850G2 and will be watercooled but will start another thread for that.

the total cost of those is approx £1400.

x99 build. sell the 2x 2x4gb ddr 3 ram and it's less than your z97 build! lol

Going to be using it for gaming on a 4k monitor and really want that motherboard. I like the powercolor GPU's as u get free ram so would have 32gb total u think 2 R9 290s would be enuf for 4k with min 40fps as have combined 8gb vram.

290s in Xfire give you 4gb only, not the 8 you want. Same with the 295x.

I think you could make x99 work with your budget. (Oops just seen the post above!)

Stick with 16gb and a 256gb ssd as you can always upgrade later. (Seems 512gb is possible)

I guess it depends on your needs but if I were in your position I'd stick with a single 290 video card for now and use the £300 saving to go for an X99 setup as it'll be quicker and more future proof.

Thanks for the replies. Think I might wait till the gtx 900 series GPU's and released in a few weeks and could prob just drop a slower Cpu into that board then wait for Broadwell whenever that gets released?

They also come with the terri-bad cooling meaning the card constantly throttling when under load and the fans at 100%. There's a reason these are so cheap.

Just no..

You missed the watercooling part as the OP wants to do in the future. At stock they're fine, any issues and OcUK have special warranty with XFX and they aren't as bad as people make out. Loud yes, unacceptable for the price to then be watercooled... no. Would not be turning my nose away anyway.
