Build advice £800

Happy Christmas, lads! Thanks for chipping in! Even on a day like this I'm being nagged by a relative to spec up a build!

Specs WITHOUT a GPU also needed as he's 50/50 on using the old one.

The thread title literally says "Build advice £800" holmes

If you read the post I quoted it sounds like the OP wants another build without a gpu. I would rather make sure im not wasting my time and his without knowing all the info (unless I have read it incorrectly).

No problems :)
Just need @Shampoo to qualify what he was saying.

With an extra £339 to play with I would update my above build to a b650/7600x and 32 gig ddr5 and maybe squeeze in a 2tb ssd :)
:)

Yeah definitely mate! Although for me I'd push for the extra for an 8 core, as I think personally the 7600x is a bit of a con for 'next gen'/am5, I mean we got 5700x/5800x and even 5800x3d on am4... So a 6 core for 'next gen' imho is a bit of a step back/not as future proof.

The problem is a 8 core 7700 is £315 on its own.
For his budget, I'd be inclined to recommended a 5800X3D/AM4/32GB CAS 16 3600mhz setup... I know it can't be upgraded further, but the whole just buy this now and upgrade it later costing you another £3-400 etc etc... Doesn't wash with me.
If he's not using a ridiculous spec GPU nor intending on going above a 4090 for a few years, I'm sure he wouldn't have any chance of noticing any 'bottlenecks' at this point if it's just used for gaming?

He could end up with a really high end AM4 setup with this price point and or some money left over for games/future GPU upgrades should he not stick with what he wants/has planned?

Easy to misread, but the OP did say a spec without a GPU. I should have bolded that! :o £800 budget. Can push another 50 quid if it changes the game. Case-wise you don't need to spend too long on as I believe he's wanting to fit it all in a Fractal Design Focus G. As long as the parts get in there we're good. He's still using a BD drive so needs the bay that case has.

Adjusted my Intel spec to remove the case and graphics card:

My basket at OcUK:

Total: £782.92 (includes delivery: £7.99)

The motherboard only has 2x M.2 slots, so if a lot of storage is needed, I'd switch to another B760 or Z790 board.

Cooler: this, K CPUs don't include a cooler and it probably wouldn't be suitable anyway.

If you have extra cash, I'd upgrade the CPU to a 13700F (or non-K). FYI: I believe Intel is releasing 14th gen non-K CPUs soon.

AM4

My basket at OcUK:

Total: £743.90 (includes delivery: £0.00)

Change the cooler for a thermalright peerless assassin or phantom spirit for about £33 at other stores and they will both fit in the Fractal Focus G

AM5

My basket at OcUK:

Total: £858.86 (includes delivery: £0.00)

Again swap the cooler for the thermalright ones.

Both top end gaming setups but the AM5 is going to be suppported until 2025.
Intel

My basket at OcUK:

Total: £814.91 (includes delivery: £0.00)

While the 7800x3d is the best gaming CPU on AM5 it's certainly not the best bang for buck. It's 25% faster on average in games than the 7600, while costing 80% more.
