Hi Overclockers!

I've never built a PC before but have been advised to go it alone rather than buy a pre built rig. Can you please check the kit list I've put together and offer advice as to whether I've got everything I need, or whether you think I should swap out certain components. Ideally I'd hope to spend £3,500 but this little lot is coming out at £4,345 so some advice on slimming it down a little without losing too much 'future proofing' would be great

For reference, I'm not looking to play games (except on rare occasions) and will mostly be using it for UE5 projects, 3D modelling (Maya / Blender), Z-Brush and Photoshop. I work in the visual effects industry, so I'm concentrating on cinematics and stills rather than gameplay.

Also, any tips on what the hell I should be doing, how to avoid cocking it up all gratefully received

Thanks so much for taking a look

Here's an alternative AMD build:
My basket at OcUK:

Total: £2,866.88 (includes delivery: £11.98)

Cooler: this, in white (under £50).

I couldn't choose the white Aero-G because I couldn't find the 4090 version on sale at OCUK, so the Ventus was the best I could do.

Same story with the RAM, I know you can get the vengeance heatsinks in white.

CPU chosen based on this review, but if you don't pay the power bill, I guess it is not important.

The case includes 3x 120mm fans in the front.

The PSU already includes the white sleeved cables, so no need to buy more.

Power supply I would go with Seasonic 1200W. The supplied cable looks great. No need for replacement kit.
NVME won’t need the supplied heatsink, as any decent motherboard offers it included.
Liquid cooler (AIO) I would suggest either Arctic or EKWB. Their pumps can be tuned to be silent, yet won’t affect performance. Every Corsair AIO I’ve ever used showed some high pitch from its pump, even in silent mode.
If you like the NV7, the D30s are great, and to complete the visuals, OCUK have the Phanteks AIO with the D30s, which would save you buying a kit of 3 for the top. Not the best AIO for brute performance, but should be on pair with the majority of Asetek based AIOs.
Personally I would avoid Gigabyte as many people reported issues with their customer service. I’m using Asus at the moment, which isn’t great but replaced a power supply because of a noisy fan without screaming and kicking about it. If you can find one that looks pleasant to you, I would suggest MSI.

For productivity, you can replace the 7800X3D with the 7900 or the 7900X.
If you need a Windows License, you can shop around and get one for few pounds, OEM license.
Thermal paste, personal experience, very happy with the Gelid GC-Extreme. Arctic MX4 also won’t cause issues. Thermal Grizzly I prefer the hydronaut.
Going with another case, and less fans would save you a big chunky, but people choose a case for a reason.
