I know people hate these Spec me threads and i apologise in advance, but getting people who have better knowledge/experience than me on advice on these things is great.

My current setup is listed in my sig, im looking to move to a Core2Duo solution.

I want it to be pretty keen price wise as im looking to purchase an ATI 4850 as part of the deal.

So far i have come up with this.

Asus P5K SE Intel P35 (Socket 775) PCI-Express DDR2 Motherboard (£58.74 Inc VAT)
Intel Core 2 Duo E7200 LGA775 'Wolfdale' 2.53GHz (1066FSB) - Retail (£89.29 Inc VAT)
G.Skill 2GB DDR2 PK PC2-8500C5 (2x1GB) CAS5 Dual Channel Kit (F2-8500CL5D-2GBPK) (£41.11 Inc VAT)

Which comes out at £189.14 Inc VAT then by the time i add a 4850 it will be just over the £300 mark i hope.

So would anyone suggest any alternatives to the above for the same kind of ball park price of £300 ish inlcuding an ATI 4850 (when its released on OCUK)

Ive never been one to ever O/C kit much but everyone talks about the Core2Duo's being great and the reviews on the E7200 seem to be encouraging.

Thanks

depending on how much you plan on clocking the 7200, i'd think about dropping the memory to pc6400, and get an after market cooler like the Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro.

Beaten to it =(

That memory is overkill, PC 6400 would be more than fine until you're looking at pretty big overclocks (over 400 (or 1600 if you're counting it as intel do) fsb. a 400mhz fsb would take your chip to 3.8ghz :p

Cool. Thanks for the advice :)

After doing a bit more reading and reseraching im wondering if the following would be a good build, could save a few more pennies again.

Akasa AK-965 CPU Cooler (Socket LGA775) Akasa AK-965 CPU Cooler (Socket LGA775) (£12.91)

Asus P5K SE Intel P35 (Socket 775) PCI-Express DDR2 Motherboard Asus P5K SE Intel P35 (Socket 775) PCI-Express DDR2 Motherboard (£58.74)

GeIL 2GB (2x1GB) PC2-6400C5 800MHz Value DDR2 Dual Channel Kit (GX22GB6400DC) GeIL 2GB (2x1GB) PC2-6400C5 800MHz Value DDR2 Dual Channel Kit (GX22GB6400DC) (£30.54)

Intel Core 2 Duo E2200 "LGA775 Conroe" 2.20GHz (800FSB) - Retail Intel Core 2 Duo E2200 "LGA775 Conroe" 2.20GHz (800FSB) - Retail (£52.86)

Then Add a 4850 should come around £300

From what ive read from people using the same cooler and cpu they are getting 3Ghz easily ?

yeah the 2200's have been clocking well, just remember they aren't guaranteed to clock to 3ghz, might only get 2.5/2.8 etc.

yeh i understand that.

Thanks.

Decided to go down a slightly different route. More cost effective.

Asus P5KC IP35 Mobo (but more future proof + Crossfire)
2GB (2X1GB Corsair TwinX XMS2 PC2-6400 800Mhz
Intel Core2Duo E4500 2.2Ghz (11Multiplier) Hopefuly Clock well
Akasa AK-965 Heatpipe Cooler
Sapphie HD 4850 512MB

Not a bad upgrade i hope for just over £300 especially if i can get the CPU to clock well.
