Hiya I'm looking for some opinions on builds for a new rig I basically want to use it for encoding vids iv'e bought a nice new iPad and would like to rip and encode my DVD collection.

I'm a bit behind on the state of current pc tech last build was an e8400 which sadly has encountered a few problems which I suspect to be memory related.

If it's possible I'd like the build to be compact gone are the days where I'm happy to look at a full tower system so something in matx format would be nice

I had looked into using a Mac mini to do it but being realistic I can't conceive it having the oomph or me having the patience for slow encodes.

I've currently got hdd,os,monitor, gfx only an 8800gtx but I don't play games these days, and a corsair h50 I'd like to use in the build just for cutting down on noise, oh and a psu

Anyway if anyone can help would be appreciated ta.

Oh I should add I'd like to spend in. The 400 to 500 region.

Personally, for faster encodes which will be read/write heavy i'd get a SSD for much better performance, then build an i5 from there. It will certainly swallow your budget but will do what you want.

Sadly with my rig in it's current state I couldn't just bang an ssd in it and benefit straight away I'm getting errors all over the place And they all seem to point to hardware problems.

Thanks for the advice tho
