Hi folks,
hope someone can point me in the right direction, I've paid litttle attention to gaming machines since the days of the thunderbird athlons... been too busy with work and other BORING stuff. However, I recently got started playing the odd bit of star trek online, and path of exile. My laptop struggles a bit with both of those, so I've decided to throw together a machine to play games on.
Therein lies the problem, I have no idea what's a good buy these days, so any pointers for a reasonable machine for around the £750 - 850 mark, no preference for intel or amd, nvidia or amd. it's been so long since i bothered, my ideas are old and mouldy.
I have an OS, and monitor, kb and mouse, so just the system unit.

any help GREATLY appreciated

Thanks guys. seems the jury is back on the graphics front at least, with the AMD cards being in both builds. She who must be obeyed has just piped up with "i'll buy your graphics card" which is always a nice thing to hear :)

Was going to throw my opinion in but both those builds look pretty sweet :) I love Corsair & Bitfenix cases too, they are the only ones I ever buy when building anything for myself or friends.

I went with the first build however i need a new heatsink, any suggestions? the one I got doesn't fit, it hits the side of the case, so i'd need to run with the case off, and that's not the best plan.
Machine will be sat under the desk gathering dust for a bit now, so no rush with suggestions.

actually, nevermind i'll use the stock CPU cooler until i've got time to mess about taking the machine apart again. Thanks for the help folks.

got the ereboss cooler and ronin case. there's not much in it, but the fan hits the case side. if i push the fan down lower, only the top half is held by the rubber grommet things, so it'll flap about and make a racket at best, or not cool the cpu at worst.
might work with a smaller fan...
