Hi folks.

I've got a sim rig setup coming, and until now I've used my laptop (ASUS N56VZ S4242) for gaming, but to go with this new setup I want to have a standalone PC that will live with the rig.

About the most graphically intensive game I play is GTA5, and I want to be able to max that out at 1080p60. Sim wise, probably FSX and Assetto Corsa are the most challenging that I have.

I don't need a monitor (but I will need HDMI), keyboard or mouse, all I need really is the actual computer itself.

I'd prefer it to have double/triple screen functionality in case I decide later on to go with that setup, however it's not essential. Will need an optical drive.

I'm guessing my budget is around £7-800, but if I can do the job for less than I'd be happy to do so.

Help!

Go with a 250GB SSD and 16GB RAM. GTA V involves a lot of loading as you probably know and SSD helps. It also hit 8GB RAM usage so I added another 8GB recently. Mini-ITX board only has two slots so best to get the 16GB (2x8GB) in rightaway.

Cheaper 780 for about the same performance as a 970 could also be an option.

Easily overclockable (once you add a better cooler). i5-4690K is cheaper than the i5-4690 just now. Suitable motherboard for it costs a bit more though (£30 difference between the H81 and Z97).

£10 extra will get you a SuperFlower 80+Gold 550W with two more years warranty.

So I'd need a H81 instead of the Z97 if I wanted to use the 4690k?

Other way around. You need Z97 to overclock the 4690K. But it will work (no overclocking, or very basic overclocking if at all) with the budget H81 boards.

And what cooler would you recommend?

Thanks though!

A 120mm or 140mm liquid AIO would be good for the MSI Z97i AC motherboard, because its low CPU socket has compatibility issues with many air coolers (blocks the GPU slot).

This low-profile air cooler does fit it:
