Right, upgrading from an SN25P and moving accross to a C2D based uATX solution.
So far I'm looking at

Silverstone TJ08B uATX tower - ~£60

520W Corsair HX PSU

Asus P5k-VM iG33

I already have 2GB ballistix 6400, hard drive, DVD drive graphics card etc.

In term of processor, I'm building up the machine anticipating a 45nm Penryn processor, so for now what CPU do you guys recomend going for to keep me going (thking along E6320 or even a 2140/2160)? Consider I'm moving from an opteron 165, hopefully see an improvement what ever!

Cheers for the advise

well the big factor will be are you overclocking?
not sure what the asus bored is like but ocuk have just got in the g33m-ds2r and the new f4a bios has 1:1 mem divider for anything over an 800fsb cpu and people have reported the gigabyte bored as a strong overclocker.

Gigabyte is ok, price is a bit steep
but nothign wrong with the Asus board.

if your going for a 800mhz FSB CPU, deffinitely avoid the gigabyte( for now) as there seems little chance of a 1:1 memory option for 800mhz CPU's (with would rule out the 21xx and E4x00 series)

If you want to be a (little) crazy, i'm sure I saw pics of that case somewhere with someone squeezing a Ninja CPU cooler in there.

Yeah, I'm looking to overclock the machine, why I was looking at the 2140/60 as I hear there suppose to overclock relatively well?

Apologise for my lack of C2D knowledge, but when you say 800MHz FSB, I presume that means a "quad pumped" speed of 1600MHz?

No, the 800MHz is already Quad pumped.

In terms of actual FSB, it's running at 200MHz. i.e any overclock you do will start from a point of 200MHz, not 800MHz.

It works like the 1066FSB C2Ds do, they're already quad-pumped, the speed "non-quad-pumped" is 266MHz for those.

And with regards as what to buy, I think the general opinion is that if you're looking for a cheap chip to overclock, then something like the E2160 would suit you fine (take it over the E2140 for the extra multiplier, it's worth it for £7).
