Having just had a rather nice surprise from HMRC I'm looking at upgrading my Q6600 @ 3.0GHz to a new Haswell build. From reading various threads I've come up with the following.

YOUR BASKET
1 x Intel Core i5-4670K 3.40GHz (Haswell) Socket LGA1150 Processor - Retail £197.99
1 x Asus Z87 MAXIMUS VI GENE Intel Z87 (Socket 1150) DDR3 Micro ATX Motherboard £169.99
1 x Corsair Hydro H100i High Performance Liquid CPU Cooler (Socket 1155 / 1150 / 1156 / 1366 / 2011 / AM2 / AM3 / FM1 / FM2) £103.99
1 x TeamGroup Xtreem LV 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 PC3-20800C10 2600MHz Dual Channel Kit (TXD38G2600HC10QDC01) £97.99
1 x Corsair Obsidian 350D Micro ATX Case - Black £84.95
Total : £669.01 (includes shipping : £11.75).

How does that look?

Looks good mate.

What about getting the refirb'd H100 and using the stock cooler until it's despatched? Would save you almost £70?

You'd save quite a lot by getting 2400MHz RAM instead, and I expect it'd perform pretty much identically. With a refurbished H100 too, you could easily get a 4770K instead.

Thanks for your input guys, when are the refurbed H100's due? The only other thing that worries me is that I haven't seen a single review of the Maximus VI Gene. Any advantage with the i7 rather than the i5 for a mostly gaming machine?

I've got that board. It's like a regular premium Asus board with more branding, more tweak options in the BIOS, and the series tends to be better supported by Asus. It has a new version of AI Suite, which is massively improved.

It's only just out. When mine arrived it wasn't even listed on the Asus website!

It's solidly built, attractive (no ugly gold thankfully). Looks very much like a premium board. The UEFI BIOS is all branded, you get a ROG logo splashscreen, etc. The sound chip is isolated in the corner and has a little LED that runs all along the board to emphasise that.
