Good morning all! Im looking to order the below today hopefully, however Iv'e lost my touch with PC hardware as my last build was about 6 years ago.

Asus Rampage V Extreme USB 3.1 Intel X99 (Socket 2011) DDR4 EATX Motherboard

**** I'm not sure if i need to upgrade my power supply, I currently have an Enermax MODU87 700w running my Rampage III Extreme and ATi 5870. Have the motherboard and graphics card power connections/requirements changed much since 2010? With the new proposed spec my power requirements are around the 600w mark so I presume that power wont be an issue, I am more interested in the connections side of things. I will be water cooling too and that has been taken into account as well when I done a quick PSU calculator check on the Enermax site.

How much are you looking to spend?
Do you need monitor, keyboard, mouse and OS?
What resolution will you be working/playing @?

Don't need a monitor mouse or keyboard. Still using my trusty Dell 2407, Logitech G5 mouse and G15 Keyboard. I will be changing the monitor down the line. Money.... I'm trying to keep it around the 15-1700 mark.
 
So youve a few options. I wouldn't spend a massive amount of money on a GPU without upgrading your monitor. This build gives you headroom for a decent monitor at 1440p.

What you also need to consider. What case you like as it's very much a personal preference.

Are you intending to overclock? Do you want watercooling? Although AIOs don't require maintenance, they're more likely to breakdown as it's got a more moving parts than your standard air cooler.

If you're not intending to overclock this can be done quite a bit cheaper although overclockable cpus tends to keep up a bit longer.

Thanks for the info and another option but I'm more interested in compatibility of the hardware in the OP rather than alternative setups or bundles. I dont need a case, OS or a cooler. I only require the core items such as motherboard, processor and RAM. The SSD and GPU are going to be compatible regardless of my new proposed setup. The only other main factor is, will my 2010 power supply be compatible with new 2016 hardware?

My case is a Mountain Mods U2 UFO
I have an OS. I don't require a case, fans, mouse, keyboard, monitor, speakers, sound card, optical drive. I will be building myself.
 
I'd definitely upgrade the PSU. EVGA/Superflower seems to be mainstream atm. You wouldn't need 1200w though unless you're intending to SLI.

650w gold + is plenty

I only chose that power supply for future proofing, i.e SLI. I know my requirements are only around the 600w region. I could still save money on dropping the wattage down to what I require, but why buy twice in the long run, thanks for the info mind you.
 
Personally I think you'd be silly to spend that much money on an upgrade without considering a new screen. You won't see the improvements, ayeast nor as much. Choice is yours.

I'd get AIB rather than reference for your videocard as improved cooling and OC capabilities.

As stated above, the monitor will be changed down the line, not immediately.

Well everything you've posted is compatible. I'd strongly advice you to upgrade the power supply. Either EVGA or Superflower, Gold + standard. Wattage of your choice.

I'd change the SSD to samsung
Id change the reference to one of Aibs

Yea, I'm actually contemplating a Samsung Evo 850 of flavour's. I swore that after both of my two SATA 7200 Samsung drive's died within a year of each other Id never have another one near me, but hey, times change and so does technology. Maybe i just got unlucky with them.
 
I have a Prolamitech Megahalems on my i7 950, wont fit the 2011 socket from what I gather, I am going to use the standard supplied one with the i7 6800 for the time being as I plan to watercool
 
Think you will find no cooler is supplied with them, being enthusiast item Intel expects you to have top notch enthusiast cooling already.
 
Oh, my bad. See... I wasn't lying when I said I was out of touch! Haha. Can you recommend a cheap and cheerful cooler that will suffice until I go water?

But it needs to fit inbetween the RAM and their higher than normal heatsinks.

Plus your choice of board, there have been a few newer X99 releases.
